Condition
The canvas has been relined.
There is a small loss to the paint surface (c.0.5cm. diameter) just beneath the centre of the sofa. In this area, the surrounding paint is lifting and fragile and would require professional attention to stabilise and prevent further losses. Otherwise the paint surface appears to be in good sound condition.
Inspection under UV light reveals various localised areas of retouching, mostly concentrated around the outside of the picture and in the floor area. The largest of these runs from the top edge down the left side of the curtain to a depth of approx. 3in. Occasional tiny further spots are very sparsely scattered through the central section.
Presented unglazed ina gilt wood frame in good sound condition.
