Catalogue Note

From 1920 to 1928 Jettmar executed a series of paintings depicting the four seasons. It is likely that the present work was painted circa 1920-1921, as the first known compositional study in Jettmar's sketch book dates from 1920 and the second version of Herbst in oil was executed in 1921 (see Hans H. Hofstaetter, Rudolf Jettmar, Vienna, 1984, pp. 90 & 162, in which Herbst II is catalogued and illustrated).
