Condition

Overall this work is in fine condition with no retouches. There are a couple of tiny nicks in the red robe of St. John and some small losses to the lower image on the outside of the right door (visible in the catalogue illustration). All of the painted surfaces would benefit from cleaning, especially the front of the right door to remove the surface dirt visible in the catalogue illustration. The panels are each made up of two layers. The bottom layer of the central panel is made up of two joined pieces of wood, while the top layer is made up of a single piece. The vertical join in the lower layer has caused a slight tension and the beginnings of a very fine hairline crack in the upper layer between the first and second arches from the left (visible on close inspection). The top right hinge has buckled and would need to be replaced in order for the doors to be shut properly.
