Condition
Overall the condition of the terracotta is very good. There is a crack to the base. There is some dirt in the crevices, There is some wear and some very minor chips.

Catalogue Note
Hargrove records that La Nuit was sold in marble in Carrier's first 1868 Drouot sale as no. 2 (1m. high) and as a terracotta, no.13 (70cm. high). The present terracotta differs from a related version, sold in these rooms as lot 190 on the 27 April 2001, in that the female figure is here shown nude rather than with the modest drapery slung from a belt.
