Catalogue Note

The marble bust of Grevy was exhibited at the Salon of 1880 no. 6170 and at the Exposition nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1883, no. 915.  Carrier-Belleuse donated a marble of Grevy to the city of Besançon in 1880.  The bust was henceforth reproduced in a variety of media, including biscuit at Sévres.  Véron in Salon de l'Art  waxed lyrically on the bust, calling it  "a superb bust that honors the president as much as the sculptor."
