Catalogue Note

This exquisite, small terracotta of a nude woman with a dove is a tender evocation of the Rococo in its gently erotic iconography reminicient of Clodion's depictions of La Source.  Carrier-Belleuse executed many models of women with birds, including La Paix (lot no.16) and La Colombe (lot 33). Although it cannot be confirmed that the present model is the same version, Carrier exhibited a 20 cm. high statuette of Femme à la Colombe at his sales of 1887.
