Condition
Overall the condition of the terracotta is very good. There is a crack on the reverse of the socle. There are remnants of plaster in crevices, some very minor chips and some surface dirt.

Catalogue Note
Marie Antoinette must have proved a fitting subject for Carrier, a sculptor deeply inspired by the lively realism of the Rococo. A terracotta his bust of Marie Antoinette (65cm) was sold at auction on Paris by Carrier in 1887.
