Condition

Overall condition of the terracotta is very good. There is very minor surface dirt and chips consistent with age.

Catalogue Note

Hargrove describes Carrier-Belleuse's Psyche as a sculpture that is "expressed in the precious vein of the Rococo...fragile and dainty."  The full-size marble version was exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1872 and purchased by the French state soon after.  It is now in preserved in the city of Marseille.
