Catalogue Note

Born in Bordeaux, Rancoulet was a pupil of Lequesne and the municipal school of Bordeaux. He exhibited at the Salon between 1870 and 1876 and is best known for his works cast in bronze. The present finely cast bronze is typical of 19th Century themes. Entitled Duty it details a father presenting a sword to his infant son, whilst the mother seems to protest.
