Description

20 leaves from two manuscripts, some leaves separate, some partly stitched, (a) 10 leaves from a Latin Bible, 178mm. by 125mm., double column, 46 lines, written-space 115mm. by 80mm., text from parts of Jeremiah, Baruch, prologue to Ezekiel (Stegmüller 492) and Ezekiel 1-13, gothic script, capitals touched in red, chapter initials in red and blue with contrasting penwork, two large painted initials in leafy and dragon designs in colours on panel grounds, one 5 lines high, one 7-line, northern France (probably Paris), mid-thirteenth century; and (b) 10 leaves from a treatise De Laudibus Mariae, double column, 40 lines, written-space 132mm. by 88mm., small gothic bookhand, text from book X, extensively rubricated, red and blue initials, a bit cockled from damp, probably France, late thirteenth century, both from the same manuscripts as lot 7 in the sale in these rooms, December 2005
