This painting depicts a view across the river Neckar towards Königstuhl (King's Hill) and Heidelberg Castle which was rebuilt after the war of succession in 1695. The arched bridge spanning the river is that of Alte Brücke with the Baroque towers erected between 1786 and 1788 by Prince Elector Karl Theodor.
