Catalogue Note

Gaspard Gobaut specialised in finely painted military scenes and topographical views. He became renowned for his numerous Parisian cityscapes and depictions of battle scenes from the Conquest of Algeria and Italian Campaign of 1859. His works were regularly exhibited in the Salon de Paris from 1840 to 1878. He was awarded the Légion d'Honneur in 1871.
