Provenance
Thomas Smith of Magdalen College, Oxford (1638-1710), with considerable marks of reading in volume II. Smith was passionately interested in oriental studies and the affairs of the Greek church, and he spent three years at Constantinople. The author of a large number of important books, including one on the Greek church, he was also the biographer of (amongst others) John Greaves.
