Catalogue Note
Born in Belfast and having studied at the Methodist College and the University of Ulster, Davidson has been painting the cityscapes of his birthplace since he was a teenager. The dramatic bird's eye perspective of the present work is typical of his series of Belfast views, made possible by painting from the upper floors of the tallest buildings in the city such as Windsor House (the viewpoint of the present work) the Hilton Hotel, Bedford House and the Knockagh War Memorial.
Having developed the distinctive fresh and impastoed style evident in the present work, Davidson has had solo exhibitions at galleries such as the Tom Caldwell Gallery, Belfast and the Solomon Gallery, Dublin and his works are held in the collections of public institutions such as the Arts Council of Northern Ireland; Queen's University Belfast; The Office of Public Works, Dublin and the Law Society of Ireland.
