Catalogue Note

The present work captures the highly social annual occasion of the Ireland Fund Ball, held in 1996 at the Dorchester Hotel, London.  The central figure is thought to be Jackie Dutton and in the foreground the renowned Irish architect Sam Stephenson and the Chairman of the Ireland Fund of Great Britain, Peter Sutherland.

Born in Northumbria, Bewick was brought up on a small farm in Co. Kerry and subsequently studied at the N.C.A.D., Dublin. Having painted since she was aged two, she has had numerous solo exhibitions including her retrospective exhibition Two to Fifty held at the Guiness Hop Store, Dublin in 1985 and The Yellow Man held in 1996 at the Royal Hibernian Academy.
