Richard Kingston, R.H.A. 1922-2003

The thick fluid impasto and dynamic composition of Interior immediately belie the influence on the artist in the 1950s of the American Abstract Expressionists.  Kingston was one of the first Irish artists to embrace their energetic style at a time when the modernist influence in Ireland had predominantly come from the Continent.

Kingston was largely self taught as an artist and has had numerous solo exhibitions including shows at the Hendriks Gallery, Dublin; Leicester Galleries, London; Solomon Gallery, Dublin and a Retrospective at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin in 2001.  He served on the board of Governors at the National Gallery of Ireland from 1982 - 1989 and is represented in the collections of institutions such as the Arts Council of Ireland, Allied Irish Bank and the Waterford Municipal Art Collection.
