Catalogue Note

The attribution of this lot is disputed.  On the basis of photographs Dr. Martina Brunner-Bulst has indicated that she thinks this is the work of a close follower of Pieter Claesz., while Fred G. Meijer has recently re-confirmed his opinion, given at the time of the 1995 sale (see Provenance), that this is an autogtraph work by the artist, datable circa 1650.
