The present lot is the sixth example of a series of 20 pieces of one-minute tourbillon watches produced by Girard Perregaux in the early 1980s.  It is a re-issue of their original design from 1880, but utilizes modern manufacturing materials and technology.

The tourbillon carriage is similar to the design patented by Ernest Guinand for Girard Perregaux in the late 19th century.

No. 1 of this series is illustrated and discussed in Meis, Das Tourbillon, pps. 44, 284-285, pls. Z52, 392-399.

The firm would later develop a very successful series of triple bridge tourbillon wristwatches.  See lot 42 for one such example in this sale.
