This chandelier is a based upon a design published by Daniel Marot in his `Nouveau Livre d' Orfèvreie Inventé par Marot...' of 1710,  illustrating arms issuing from masks on a cahndelier, which was realised in examples by André-Charles Boulle, who was appointed ébéniste du roi in 1672, see Ottomeyer/Pröschel, op. cit., p.54, fig.1.6.9. There are 18th century examples of this type of chandelier in the Louvre, Royal Palace Stockholm and the Victoria and Albert Museum and see for example, the chandelier by Boulle upon which this one is modelled, now in the Bibliothèque Mazarin, Paris,  illustrated by Ottomeyer/Pröschel, op. cit., p.54, fig.1.6.10.
