The present work is the ninth in a series of landscapes executed by Münter in 1955. Both Münter and Kandinsky often depicted Murnau in their work, beginning in 1909 when Münter acquired a house there. After a period of self-imposed exile during World War I, Münter returned to Murnau where she lived in relative seclusion.
