Catalogue Note

According to Mary Landa, this work depicts Steven Standard, the brother of another Wyeth model, Eric Standard, seated on a bench in front of the Finnish Congregational church in Thomaston, Maine. The Vestry is a study for Off at Sea (Private Collection), a tempera painted by Wyeth in 1972.
