Catalogue Note
For the Tiffany exhibit at the Chicago World's Fair, commemorating the 400th Anniversary of Columbus landing in the Americas, Paulding Farnham turned to several North American cultures for inspiration. The "Viking Punch Bowl" (Metropolitan Museum) acknowledged American explorers before Columbus, while the "Aztec Calendar Plate," the "Pueblo vase", and these spoons inspired by Pacific Northwest totem poles offered indigenous styles to a Gilded Age audience.
