Augustus Samuel Boult fl.1815-1853

The sitter was the eldest son of General Sir Henry Seymour and his wife Frances Heathcote.  His great grandfather was Henry 5th Duke of Beaufort.  He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 60th Foot in 1817, rising through the ranks to attain the rank of Major in the 3rd King's Own Light Dragoons in 1826.  In 1829 he became Lieutenant-Colonel of the 1st Royal Dragoons, in whose uniform he is depicted in the present picture.
