pacing with plaited tail, gilding worn in part, on later wood base with simulated red marble panels
Catalogue Note
This well-known model of a pacing horse is similar in composition to the equestrian monument to Cosimo I and was repeatedly cast through the centuries. A lifetime cast from the George Salting bequest is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (A.148-1910).
