The sale represents the second chapter of The Epicurean’s Atlas in Europe, comprising the crème de la crème of Burgundy wines, to be staged in Beaune. The sale will be held at Cave du Couvent des Cordeliers, a 13th-century convent – the most exclusive wine venue in the world.<br><br>Highlights include a selection of world-class wines, from Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Montrachet Grand Cru, Meursault, Chambertin Grand Cru, Clos de Vougeot to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.

Sotheby’s groundbreaking Live In The Vines auction closes the European leg of an exceptional journey around the world, during which we offer a window into the legendary cellar of Pierre Chen to collectors in all of the key global wine markets.

The Epicurean’s Atlas – Live In The Vines takes place during a special moment in the Burgundian calendar, following the conclusion of the Musique et Vin Festival; a unique week of events celebrating the close links between the arts of classical music and winemaking. For Pierre Chen, a visionary aesthete whose own collecting philosophy centres on his desire to live alongside the arts about which he is so passionate, threading the links between them throughout his home, there could scarcely be a more suitable moment in the calendar to host an auction in this singular wine region.

This extraordinary sale, taking place in the historic, 13th century Cave du Couvent des Cordeliers in the centre of Beaune, represents the first time that Sotheby’s will host a Single Owner auction, from a private collection, within the city walls of this capital of the wine world itself, surrounded by the very storied vineyards whose wines are being offered for sale.<br><br>Burgundy is a region that is close to Pierre Chen’s heart. He is an incredibly dedicated collector who, like many, has been on a journey through which he has explored the greatest wines from famous regions all over the world. One particular characteristic that marks Pierre beyond others, though, is his insatiable thirst for learning and discovery; when he finds something he likes, Pierre finds himself driven to get as close as possible to the origin, to a fundamental understanding, whether that means travelling to meet chefs, source ingredients, or explore vineyards and meet with winemakers, to truly appreciate the heart of his passions.<br><br><br><br><div class="Enhancement">

        </div><br><br>In the case of his relationship with Burgundy, the culmination of Pierre’s exploration was the purchase of a parcel of the fabled Musigny Grand Cru vineyard, which has resulted in a close connection with the Faiveley family, who farm Pierre’s Musigny parcel and bottle a portion of the fruits of their labour every year in magnums, produced exclusively for his use. It is therefore very exciting for us to have included here a special vertical of these magnums comprising every vintage since Pierre Chen’s purchase of the vineyard, which cannot be found anywhere on the open market.

Beyond these exclusive magnums, the wines included in this tightly-curated sale represent a roll call of Burgundy’s most exemplary producers, with a particularly impressive array of large-formats on offer –rarely found when it comes to the greatest wines of the Côte d’Or. In these pages we find the very best examples from the likes of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaines Leroy and d’Auvenay, Coche-Dury, Leflaive, Dujac, Rousseau, Ponsot and many more. We finish, literally, with a celebration and a sparkle, offering a handful of incredibly special Champagne lots comprising only the very greatest back-vintage releases from Krug and Dom Pérignon to send you on your way.<br><br>Winemaking occupies a space right on the liminal boundary between Art and Science, and never is that more clear than in the magnificent bottles offered here. If art is the expression of the human soul in terms of a tangible, worldly product, then the wines highlighted here are at once works of art and perfect snapshots of their creators’ philosophies. They offer exquisite purity and paradoxical power. These are truly the world’s most harmonious wines, but are produced in such minimal quantities that the opportunity to experience them remains an elusive dream for many collectors worldwide. It is therefore a pleasure for us to be able to offer this beautifully assembled collection, the wines of which will form leading additions to any great cellar.<br><br><div class="Enhancement">
