This February, London Fine Jewels will offer a selection of extraordinary jewels for discerning collectors looking for rare and iconic designs by houses such as Van Cleef &amp; Arpels, Cartier and Boucheron. The pieces on offer span over a century of jewellery making, ranging from the 19th century through to contemporary designs. Furthermore, we will be presenting a rare collection of jewels by the renowned jeweller Andrew Grima.

Fine Jewels

Grima was the revolutionary of the 1960s British jewellery industry. Entirely self-taught, Roman-born Grima studied mechanical engineering in London before joining the Royal Engineers during World War II. After the war, Grima begin work in the accounts division of his father-in-law’s jewellery firm in London before moving into the design department. His imagination had no limits, creating cutting edge designs using colourful and bold faceted and rough gemstones set in irregular, abstract and often textured gold structures. Typically only making one of each design, each piece is limited and truly unique. Grima soon became the go-to society jeweller counting H.R.H Queen Elizabeth, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and H.R.H Princess Margaret as clients. The cast oleander leaf brooch featured in this auction was made using the same technique as Princess Margaret’s lichen brooch and is instantly recognisable as a Grima creation. Today Grima is revered as one of the great modernist jewellery designers of the 20th century. His creations often attract much attention when they appear at auction, especially when a rare private collection such as this is unveiled. His work can be seen at the Victoria &amp; Albert Museum, counting fashion designers Marc Jacobs and Miuccia Prada as collectors.
