This sale includes an impressive selection of devotional wood sculpture, reflecting the various styles and subjects that were prevalent in Belgium, The Netherlands, and Germany during the middle ages and northern renaissance. The sale features an exciting new discovery in the oeuvre of the important German sculptor, Tilman Riemenschneider, who can be considered the zenith of northern European wood sculpture tradition.

Devotional Wood Sculpture from the North

The Grand Tour of Italy in the 18th century inspired a demand for souvenirs in the form of bronze reductions of the most celebrated ancient marbles and monuments in Rome. Among the leading founders were Giacomo and Giovanni Zoffoli, whose works are represented in this fine collection of Grand Tour bronzes from the renowned contemporary art gallery Karsten Schubert London.
