Louis Anquetin Biography

Louis Anquetin (1861–1932) was a notable French painter and draughtsman who pioneered a unique art style that synthesized Post-Impressionism and the avant-garde movements of the early twentieth century. Born in Étrépagny, Eure, he moved to Paris, studying under renowned artists like Léon Bonnat. Anquetin formed significant friendships with Vincent van Gogh and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, with whom he developed the cloisonnisme technique characterized by bold outlines and vivid colors directly inspired by the Ukiyo-e genre of Japanese art.
