The Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio have announced their acquisition of a floral still life by Maria van Oosterwijck (1630–1693). It will join the museum's growing collection of works by female artists, including this example by Rachel Ruysch. Maria's famous portrait by Wallerant Vaillant, showing her with brushes and palette in hand, is preserved in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The work will undergo conservation and restoration before it is unveiled to the public later this year.
One of the highlights of the J.E. Safra sale at Sotheby's New York in 2011 was a similar Maria van Oosterwijck still life which eventually achieved $1.42m.
