Rolex Explorer Reference 6350 Circa 1953, 48,260 USD

Rolex Explorer Reference 6350

The above Rolex Explorer Reference 6350 Circa 1953 was sold for 48,260 USD in December 2023. This model marked the debut of the first true Rolex Explorer model. While previous references hinted at the Rolex Explorer 1 design, the 6350 was the first to consistently feature the Explorer name on the dial. This particular model boasted a honeycomb dial, a rare feature also found on the legendary Rolex Explorer Reference 6541 Milgauss. The glossy black dial, adorned with gold-colored details, was created through a complex galvanic coating process. Over time, the radium luminous compound on the iconic 3-6-9 numerals and indices aged to a rich pumpkin hue.

The Mercedes hour hand and syringe minute hand added to the uniqueness of this watch. The exceptional condition of the rare dial and its luminescent elements further enhanced its desirability among collectors. Accompanied by a Rolex presentation box, this ultra-collectible Rolex Explorer 1 Reference 6350 became a prized possession for those who appreciate both history and horological craftsmanship.

Rolex required Blyth to insure the watch, provide periodic reports, and return the watch temporarily for testing after the expedition.

The classic look and robust design of this model made it a favorite among adventurers and watch enthusiasts alike. Its connection to Blyth's historic expedition added to its allure, which made it a sought-after piece in the world of luxury watches.
