I f you’ve bought or sold with us lately, then you’ve probably heard the news: Sotheby’s has instituted a new, simpler fee structure offering the fairest terms in the industry. One head-turning change is that we’ve lowered our Buyer’s Premium by 26% on almost everything we sell.

Reducing fees gives buyers more power in the room, which we believe will lead to more competitive bidding – not to mention a lower barrier to entry for prospective clients. Here’s how to put that buying power to use.

The First Sales With Our New BP

Modern & Contemporary Art (9 June)

The auction in brief: Under the overarching theme of “Paradise,” this live sale in Singapore curates a selection of works that explore how art making and artistic creation brings artists and viewers into another idyllic realm.

Key lots: At the exhibition taking place from 5 June, you’ll find an array of works by modern masters and contemporary stars including a melodic composition of catching and rearing chickens by Anita Magsaysay-Ho and a whimsical painting from Jeff Koon’s Gazing Ball series, among many others.

The Luxury Sales (Now through 14 June)

The auction in brief: A sale series showcasing our specialist edit of the best watches, jewels, handbags and more.

Key lot: Everyone is talking about Sylvester Stallone’s Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, one of the most exciting watches to ever come to market. With a timepiece this valuable (the low estimate is $2.5 million), the BP savings could be truly significant.

Design Week (31 May through 5 June)

The auction in brief: A curated survey of superior 20th- and 21st-century collectible furniture, objets d’art and more.

Key lots: In our New York galleries, you’ll find masterworks led by highlights from The Tamotsu Yagi Collection, assembled by the prestigious art director who was one of Steve Jobs’ collaborators.

Book Week (12 June through 10 July)

The auction in brief: A remarkable array of printed materials, including literature spanning continents and centuries, Americana and other historical documents.

Key lots: These sales (which will take place in New York, Paris and London) are led by Dr. Rodney P. Swantko’s exquisite library of rare volumes by Walt Whitman, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Edgar Allan Poe and Vladimir Nabokov.

Future Sales

July will see the return of our annual Geek Week and Sports Memorabilia auctions. Fall means fine-art marquee season with The Hong Kong Sales, The London Sales, The Paris Sales and The New York Sales. And it goes on from there.

Our new fee structure applies to all sale categories with the exceptions of automobiles, real estate, wine and spirits. Have a more comprehensive look at our auction calendar highlights at the link below.
