The recently announced Sir Peter Paul Rubens' Portrait of a Man as the God Mars, which will be offered in the upcoming Sotheby's New York Modern Evening Sale this May, is travelling for a special exhibition in London later this month. This rare and beautifully preserved oil on panel encapsulates the Baroque master’s unrivalled originality and power of expression. The portrait comes to sale from the illustrious Fisch Davidson Collection, from which ten Baroque masterpieces were sold at Sotheby’s New York earlier this year for a combined total of $49.6M.
The painting will be on display in the Linnell Gallery at Sotheby's London Headquarters in New Bond Street from Friday 24th February untill Tuesday 28th February, 5pm. Shortly afterwards it will head to Sotheby's Amsterdam, details of which will be announced in due course.
