Sotheby's London have announced the upcoming sale of 17 paintings from the collection of the late Juan Manuel Grasset (1927-2020).
Unveiled in Europe for the very first time, the Grasset Collection transports us us to the 'Golden Age' of still life painting, and to the early 17th century when the Netherlands enjoyed a burst of unprecedented wealth, scientific advancement and creativity. All painted within a period of 50 years, the works in this collection chart the evolution of this artistic genre in its most vital moment.
The collection includes works by Giovanni Antonio Canal, called Canaletto, Jan Davidsz. de Heem, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Osias Beert the Elder, Juan van der Hamen y León and Jan van Kessel.
To celebrate the announcement, a special exhibition of parts of the collection will run at Sotheby's London headquarters from 7th - 14th September 2022. The paintings have been presented in dialogue with pieces by acclaimed contemporary British artists Rob and Nick Carter.
The collection will be offered in the upcoming Old Master Paintings Evening Sale 7th December 2022.
