Named “Most Powerful Stylist” and “Stylist of the Year,” Kate Young — who’s dressed Margot Robbie, Dakota Johnson, Selena Gomez, Michelle Williams, Sophie Turner and more — shares her tips on styling some items coming to auction at Luxury Week.

K ate Young is one of the most sought-after red carpet stylists around. After starting her career as Anna Wintour’s assistant at Vogue, Young held various editorial positions at Teen Vogue, Interview and InStyle, and made the leap to celebrity styling in 2010. Now, with an impressive clientele that includes Margot Robbie, Dakota Johnson, Selena Gomez, Michelle Williams, Sienna Miller, Natalie Portman, Sophie Turner and more, Young has been named The Hollywood Reporter’s “most powerful stylist” and InStyle’s “stylist of the year.”

In advance of Luxury Week this June, Young swung by Sotheby’s to share her advice on styling some of the pieces coming to auction.

Lorraine Schwartz Colored Diamond Necklace

Lorraine Schwartz, Colored Diamond and Diamond Necklace . Estimate: $50,000 – 70,000.
“The thing I think is so exciting about this is how flat it is. It feels fluid, almost like a piece of lace — like one of those lace vintage collars. It could look amazing with a slip dress, but also that softness is always nice with casual clothes.”

Verdura “Midas” Bracelets

Left: Verdura, Gold, Enamel, Tourmaline, Cultured Pearl and Diamond Cuff-Bracelet . Estimate: $20,000 – 30,000. Right: Verdura, Gold “Midas” Bracelet . Estimate: $25,000 – 35,000.
“They look cool now, but you see so many pictures of old movie stars at dinners wearing them. They always remind me of a time when people went out to dinner in evening gowns and furs and jewelry every night.”

Van Cleef & Arpels Brooch

Left: Van Cleef & Arpels, A Highly Important “Mystery-Set” Ruby and Diamond Clip-Brooch, France. Estimate: $500,000 – 700,000. Right: Verdura, Two Diamond Brooches. Estimate: $40,000 – 60,000.
“Most of the time, I use brooches in the hair. I really like the idea of adding a piece of something precious and sparkly in hair — either just a piece coming up or placed around an up-do. The idea of these wings staggered around the head is so beautiful and chic.”

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Watch

Audemars Pigeut, A stainless steel automatic wristwatch with date and bracelet, Circa 2012 . Estimate: $40,000 – 80,000.
“I got mine about five years ago. I bought it vintage for my husband, who doesn’t wear it, and I do.”
