T he Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden has been a leading voice in Contemporary Art and culture in Washington DC since its opening in 1974. Financier and philanthropist Joseph H. Hirshhorn donated more than 12,000 works to the Museum with permission to deaccession works through the authority of the Board of Trustees with all proceeds going into acquisition funds for new works of art. Joseph H. Hirshhorn: Collector for a Nation showcases the breadth of Hirshhorn’s expansive collection.
