On 3 October at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, patrons enjoyed the evening by exploring Sotheby's galleries and previewing the spectacular lineup of works by Modern and Contemporary artists, exceptional Chinese ceramics and sculpture, plus a dazzling selection of jewellery and watches which will go under the hammer this season.
Attracting great interest from potential bidders was Sanyu’s ultimate nude painting, Nu, which is making its auction debut in our Modern Evening Sale. The artist’s Nu Rose sur Tissus Chinois and Leonard Tsuguharu Foujita’s Jeune Femme au Petit Chien was also of particular interest to collectors.
Another highly anticipated auction will be The Gillion Crowet Collection which brings together standout works by foremost contemporary Chinese artists, including Liu Ye’s Smoke, Zhang Xiaogang’s Big Family No.16, as well as paintings by Yue Minjun, Zeng Fanzhi, and Zhou Chunya.
Chinese works of art was a feast for the eyes, as guests were drawn to an exquisite enamelled pouch-shaped glass vase of the Qianlong Period, and an exceptional blue and white ‘dragon’ stem bowl from the Xuande Period, among the many treasures gathered.
Of particular interest was Jean Prouvé’s prefabricated house, which was assembled inside the gallery space. Patrons were able to enter the structure and admire the French architect’s ingenious design.
The evening also brought a dazzling array of exceptional diamonds, including an impressive 100.02-carat fancy intense yellow diamond necklace by Chinese American designer, Anna Hu.
