Cartier Diamond Watch Tutti Frutti Circa 2003

History of Cartier Diamond Watches

Cartier first started adding diamonds to watches in the 1920s. The Cartier Tutti Frutti watch is one of the first watches to feature diamonds and gem stones. These Cartier diamond watches were set in platinum and featured carved sapphires, emeralds and rubies and diamonds. Cartier also added diamonds to the Tank watch during the Art Deco period. The modern rectangular design of the Cartier Tank watch made it ideal for adding diamonds to the bracelet and the case. Since the Art Deco period, Cartier has continued to expand the number of watches to feature diamonds. Today nearly all of Cartier watches have diamond variations.

Cartier diamond watche models—Cartier Tank, Cartier Baignoire, Cartier Crash, Cartier Ballon Bleu, and Cartier Santos—represent a pinnacle of watchmaking and luxury. Each model offers a unique blend of design, history, and luxury, making them treasured pieces in any collection. Whether you seek the timeless elegance of the Cartier Tank, the vintage charm of the Cartier Baignoire, the avant-garde allure of the Cartier Crash, the contemporary sophistication of the Cartier Ballon Bleu, or the innovative spirit of the Cartier Santos, Cartier's diamond watches are sure to captivate and delight.

The Cartier Tank is perhaps the most iconic model in Cartier's watch lineup. Introduced in 1917, its design was inspired by the Renault tanks used during World War I. The Cartier Tank's rectangular case, clean lines, and elegant proportions have made it a timeless classic. When adorned with diamonds, the Cartier Tank takes on a new level of sophistication. The diamond set bezel and sometimes even the bracelet add a dazzling sparkle, enhancing the watch's refined aesthetic. A diamond Cartier Tank watch model is a favorite of both men and women for its versatility and understated luxury. The Cartier Tank watch is also one of Cartier's first watches to feature diamonds.

Diamond Cartier Santos

Diamond Cartier Santos Triple 100

The Cartier Santos, originally created in 1904 for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, is renowned for its square case and exposed screws. This design has stood the test of time, remaining a symbol of innovation and style. When embellished with diamonds, the Cartier Santos becomes a beacon of luxury and sophistication. The diamond set bezel and bracelet elevate the watch's sporty yet elegant design, making it suitable for various occasions. The diamond Cartier Santos appeals to both men and women who appreciate its blend of practicality and opulence.

Although famous for its jewelry creation, Cartier was the first to introduce the men's wristwatch in the early 20th century and is responsible for significant advances in case construction during the era. In 1904, the Brazilian pioneer aviator, Alberto Santos-Dumont complained to his friend Louis Cartier of the unreliability and impracticality of using pocket watches while flying, Cartier took the challenge and designed a flat wristwatch with a distinctive square bezel. This watch was not only a hit with Santos-Dumont, but also with many of Cartier's wealthy and aristocratic clients. Thus, the Cartier Santos was born and become a symbol of Cartier's timeless modernity. Cartier also created the deployant buckle in 1910, which is now used by numerous major watch manufacturers worldwide.

Cartier designed the Cartier Santos Triple 100 watch with the first-ever rotating dial mechanism. It is an exceptional and one-of-a-kind trio of watches. By simply turning the winding crown, the watch reveals a varying display of its hidden faces, either classic white dial with black Roman numerals, a strikingly engraved Dragon or the moving louvers can reveal the skeletonized movement below. The movement, specifically designed and created to be skeletonized by Cartier in La Cheaux-de-Fonds, manages to incorporate traditional Roman numerals into the skeletonized bridges that support the gears offering the wearer visual craftsmanship with practicality. Only 50 examples of this Cartier Santos Triple 100 were manufactured.
