History of the Louis Vuitton Neverfull
The Louis Vuitton Neverfull has been a huge hit with buyers since its introduction in 2007. The classic patterns, Monogram, Damier Ebene and Damier Azur are by far the most recognizable and most desired by buyers. Despite this popularity, it has become increasingly harder to purchase the classic Neverfull online and in boutiques. In 2013, Louis Vuitton added a matching detachable pouch with each bag. Similar to Hermès and Chanel, prices for Louis Vuitton bags have increased dramatically during the last ten years. The retail price for the Neverfull has more than doubled in 10 years from $870 in 2012 to $2,030 in 2023. Other classic coated canvas bags have had similar price increases.
Purchase by Waitlist Only
The classic Neverfull is no longer available to purchase online or in store. The classic coated canvas Louis Vuttion Neverfull will now only be available for purchase via a waitlist. Once a buyer is notified the bag is available, it will need to purchase in store within 24 hours or it will sell to the next person on the list. Limited edition Louis Vuitton Neverfull bags will still be available to purchase in store and online. As Louis Vuitton continues to focus on expanding its leather and limited release bags over the classic coated canvas styles. Scarcity remains an important strategy for luxury brands.
Secondary Market Prices Expected to Rise
Current resale prices for a store fresh pristine condition Neverfull MM are around $3,000, a significant premium to the retail due limited availability online and in stores. We anticipate this premium could increase if the waitlist for the bags is unpredictable or longer than the currently rumored 2-3 months. Sotheby's often has a selection of Neverfull totes from classic coated canvas to limited edition styles from previous seasons.
