Biography
Simon Toll joined Sotheby’s Victorian & Edwardian Art department in 2002.
He is the author of A Life Study, the first monograph on the 19th century painter of Classical subjects, Herbert Draper, published in 2003. Mr Toll curated three successful exhibitions of figure drawings by Draper and catalogued the family collection of over 400 preparatory sketches and studies. He has also written a major study and catalogue raisonné devoted to the Victorian artist Sir Frank Dicksee. Mr Toll has written articles for academic journals, including The British Art Journal and Apollo Magazine and is a regular contributor to Antique Collector Magazine.
Prior to coming to Sotheby’s, Mr Toll worked for Phillips and Bonhams auctioneers and for a private art dealer in London.
