Biography
Nicole Schloss began working at Sotheby’s in 2011 and joined the Contemporary Art Department in 2012. She headed Sotheby’s major semi-annual Contemporary Day Auctions between 2019-2023, positioning Sotheby’s as the market leader in this category, resulting in over $775 million in total sales volume over the four-year period. She was instrumental in establishing Day Auction record prices for works by Helen Frankenthaler, Mark Rothko, Wayne Thiebaud and Michael Armitage, and successfully stewarded a number of important consignments. Nicole’s particular area of expertise lies in Contemporary Art from the 1950s to the 1970s, and she has a keen interest in identifying and championing important and emerging markets for historical and previously underrepresented artists, such as Barkley Hendricks, Romare Bearden, Alma Thomas and Hedda Sterne.
Nicole graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in History of Art.
