Biography
Lily Zirlin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a triple major in South Asia Studies, Political Science and Hispanic Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Arts degree in South Asia Studies specializing in modern art from Columbia University in the City of New York. She explored early patronage in Indian modern art in her graduate thesis titled The Art of Influence: The Influential Families that Painted the Indian Modern Art World.
Prior to joining Sotheby’s, Zirlin worked at the Philadelphia Museum of Art under Darielle Mason, former Stella Kramrisch Curator of Indian and Himalayan Art, Delhi Art Gallery in their Mumbai and New York locations, and Christie’s South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art department in New York.
With nearly three years at Sotheby’s and over five years of experience in the modern and contemporary South Asian art world, Zirlin is passionate about the growth of the genre at the auction and institutional level and the advancement of the region’s art historical canon.
