Biography
Chaia Mascall (she/her) is a cultural critic and film scholar with research specializations in popular culture, subversive genres, Black and non-Western cinemas, and the history of gender and sexuality on screen. Chaia received a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Cinema Studies from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
Prior to joining Sotheby’s at the start of 2023, Chaia held diverse positions in arts & culture across New York City—including roles at Film Society at Lincoln Center (now, Film at Lincoln Center), Film Forum, and New York University. Her criticism on culture, music, and film has been published at Highlark Magazine, Daylight Interactive, and THEMODERNGIRLS.co where she also served as Founding Co-Editor.
Chaia is committed to the valuation of the unusual, the underserved, and to the continued expansion of who we name artists and what we consider art.
