Sale Highlights
A Sporting Lifestyle
Slainte! Scotland is associated with some of our greatest country and sporting pursuits and in particular the prerequisite refreshments these activities may demand... So it was only natural that The Register Club at Sotheby’s Scottish home, Cheval The Edinburgh Grand play host to some of the accessories featured in this sale. Our mixologist mixed up a treat using the most perfect antique silver… and presented these timeless objects exactly in the way they should.
Racing Prizes
From the middle of the 19th century silver racing prizes, particularly at major events such as Ascot and Goodwood, became grander and grander, frequently taking the form of historical figures and elaborate scenes involving horses. They were often manufactured by the leading silversmiths at the time like Garrard and Hunt & Roskell who would compete to come up with the most spectacular creations. A Toast to Sport features a dazzling array of these trophies.
