Focus on Craftsmanship in the Furniture of a Private Collector

Following the sale in Sotheby’s, New York, of one portion of Richard Kent’s extensive collection of silver-mounted claret jugs, we are pleased to now offer a further selection in the London Classic Design sale this November. This group has been especially chosen to showcase the beauty and skill of Victorian glassmaking. Particular highlights are an 1845 claret jug by Reily &amp; Storer with a triple-cased blue, white and clear glass body, almost certainly made in the Richardson glassworks near Stourbridge. A further jug, by William Edwards in 1873, is delightfully engraved with a scene of three monkeys enjoying a tipple, and was likely inspired by Thomas Landseer’s etchings in his 1827 publication Monkeyana.
