S otheby’s is delighted to present our upcoming May American Art sale, which features an exceptional group of paintings, works on paper and sculpture by some of the most celebrated American artists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Anchored by Thomas Moran’s spectacular Grand Canyon, Arizona (A Miracle of Nature) (Zoroaster Peak Grand Cañon), the sale also includes a group of paintings from The Newark Museum of Art, featuring works by Childe Hassam, Georgia O’Keeffe and Charles Sheeler. Additional highlights include a spectacular Mary Cassatt from the Brooklyn Museum of Art Sold to Support Museum Collections, Norman Rockwell’s Study for ‘Saying Grace’ and Milton Avery’s Blue Gulls-Blue Sea from 1955. We are also proud to present two paintings from The Collection of Mrs. John L Marion and a pair of early ornithological studies by John James Audubon from the Shufeldt Family Trust.
