Superb Jewels from the 'Sunrise Ruby' Collection
Amethyst and citrine bangle, Cartier
卡地亞 紫水晶及黃水晶手鐲
The hinged bangle set with calibré-cut citrines and two sugarloaf amethyst terminals, inner circumference approximately 160mm, signed Cartier and numbered, accompanied by a pouch stamped Cartier.
Please note that Lot 362 currently has a broken spring. The bracelet will be repaired after the sale.

This amethyst and citrine bangle is a later version of the ‘Handcuff Bracelet’ designed by Jeanne Toussaint for Cartier Paris in 1939. With its bold volume, yellow gold and use of amethyst and citrine, the handcuff bracelet is a prime example of what is now considered the retro-style. By the late 1930s, jewellery was moving away from the Art Deco style, which incorporated platinum and diamonds, and started adopting larger sculptural pieces favouring the use of various colourful gemstones.
