A painting of similar dimensions and depicting the same sitter in oriental costume was offered in 2014.¹ Devéria was mostly known for his illustrations but also completed portraits of famous artists, musicians and writers, including Alexandre Dumas, Jacques-Louis David and Jane Stirling, the latter bearing some resemblance to the sitter of this painting.
