of rectangular form, painted with vignettes of Watteauesque figures in landscapes, the interior of the cover with a group of figures before a trellis arch and stone column, with a town in the distance, with gilt-metal mounts

Sotheby's Scientific Research department used noninvasive XRF for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected.
