The firm of W. & G. Sissons were successors to one established in Sheffield in 1786, which William Sissons Senior joined in 1826. In 1858 William Sissons Junior and George Sissons took over the firm and the name was changed to reflect this; in 1887 Charles Sissons supplanted George. W & G. Sissons entered a London mark in 1864 under Henry Smith, then under their own names in 1866, with addresses of 9 Eyre Street, Sheffield, and 8 Duke Street, Adelphi.
