The Rolex Daytona reference 6265 represents a significant evolution in the history of the iconic model. Launched in 1971, the reference 6265 continued the tradition of the classic metal tachymeter bezel seen in earlier models like the 6239. However, it introduced several improvements, including a waterproof ‘Oyster’ case, screw-down waterproof pushers, and crown, replacing the earlier pump chronograph pushers of models like the 6239 and 6241.
Inside, the 6265 houses the renowned caliber Valjoux 727, an upgrade from the caliber 722-1 found in some previous models. To enhance accuracy, Rolex replaced the balance, increasing the vibration rate from 18,000 to 21,000. This movement, distinguished by the "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" marking on the dial, celebrated the advancements made with the improved 727 Caliber.
Among vintage Rolex Daytona watches, the ref. 6265 holds a special place for collectors. Being one of the last references of the four-digit Cosmograph Daytona generation, it represents the culmination of earlier models while featuring notable improvements. Sotheby’s is honored to present this exclusive lot, worn and personally consigned by Tom Brady himself.
